TISSUE STORAGE & PROCESSING
Cryo storage (Liquid Nitrogen)
Cryopreservation is widely used for banking of tissues/cells for long-term storage as Liquid nitrogen provides a very stable ultra-low temperature environment. . CryoPlus storage systems are used at NCTB for tissue storage. The CryoPlus Series LN2 Storage system provides precise and accurate control over all parameters without complicated programming. Currently a few million samples can be stored at our facility.
Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers
RNA, DNA and proteins extracts from the tissue samples are stored in Ultra-low temperature Freezers (-86°C). Tissue specimens collected in RNAlater solution & Saliva specimens are also stored in these Ultra-low Temperature Freezer. Eppendorf Innova Ultra-Low Temperature (ULT) Freezers combine classical insulation foam with vacuum insulation panels to offer long lasting and reliable ULT technology for safe sample storage. The Innova line is equipped with reliable heavy-duty compressors (2-stage cascade cooling system). Quick pull-down times enable fast reuse after cleaning/defrosting of the instrument. The freezers have short recovery times after opening as well as built-in voltage stabilizers to provide extra sample safety. The TCA-3 temperature monitor system is used to monitor the freezers remotely.
Cryostat
The Leica CM1950 is a highly adaptable platform that can be tailor-made for each laboratory. The cryostat comes with a UVC disinfection system and AgProtect, an antimicrobial, nanosilver coating on all outside surfaces which minimizes risk of contamination by infectious material. The self-explanatory, single-function keys and easily readable LEDs help prevent operating errors, facilitate cryosectioning, and make scrolling through multiple menus unnecessary. The control panels are comfortably positioned in the armrests to eliminate the need to reach into the cold chamber to use or adjust settings. High specimen stability is achieved by adherence to deeply grooved specimen discs. Specimens freeze quickly because the pre-cooled discs feature a large back surface that fully contacts the freezing shelf with integrated Peltier element.
Microtome
The RM2125 RTS manual microtome has the essential features you need for safe, economic sectioning and optimized workflows. For fast specimen trimming the ergonomically positioned trim lever offers the ability to quickly trim the specimen in two steps: initial 50 μm coarse trimming followed by fine trimming of 10 μm. The counter-balanced, exceptionally smooth-running hand wheel allows effortless manual sectioning. The hand wheel grip is ergonomically designed for an easy stable hold that supports the whole hand when sectioning quickly. In-built safety guards and a rounded shape with arm rests allow comfortable and fatigue-free sectioning.
